Belitsa is a new Bulgarian cotton variety, which development results from the changed economics of this crop's production in Bulgaria. The decreasing labor availability and its increasing cost led to the development of this new variety that can be grown with a minimum of manual labor.
High-positioned and closely positioned around the stem fruiting bodies provide for early and homogenous maturation. Positioning the first bolls in a limited space opens the possibility for additional increase in plant density that in turn can result in higher production per acreage.
The positioning of the bolls guarantees both earliness and efficient harvesting by the mechanical harvesters. This allows the farmers to obtain from Belitsa adequate yields and to make fields available for the next crop early in the season. Providing for timely availability of the fields for preparation for the next crop also provides for higher flexibility of farm management.
Economically efficient solution for the modern intensive farm, where access to irrigation water is highly limited.
